Heading West: Sorrento Shutters now in the Waikato

For the last year most of my days have been spent around the Bay, measuring windows and doors, talking through options, and seeing the difference shutters can make to a home. Lately more and more calls have been coming from over the Kaimais, so it felt like the right time to expand Sorrento into the Waikato as well.

Two different regions but what people want from their homes is the same. Whether it’s a farmhouse in Matamata, a villa in Hamilton, a new build in Cambridge, or a family home out Te Awamutu way, the goals are the same: style that suits the house, comfort through every season, and simple control over light and privacy.

Shutters have a way of finishing a room without trying too hard. Clean lines, no cords, nothing cluttering the window frame. They sit just as comfortably in a character home as they do in a modern place full of glass. A lot of my clients tell me their house feels more complete once they’re in.

Comfort is usually the next reason people get in touch. Big windows are brilliant for light, but they can make rooms hard to live in at different times of the day. Shutters let you soften harsh sun without losing the daylight altogether. A small tilt of the blades can take a space from too bright and hot to cool and comfortable in seconds, and do the opposite when you want to hold a bit of warmth in.

Then there’s everyday function. Curtains are either open or shut, but shutters give you options right through the day: morning privacy, glare control while you’re working from home, airflow in the evening without the house feeling exposed. They’re also built for real life, coping with kids, pets, humidity, and coastal air without much fuss.

Alongside shutters, Sorrento offers premium NZ-made blinds across the Waikato as well. Some rooms suit the architectural feel of shutters, others work better with clean roller blinds made locally to handle our conditions. Mixing the two is also a smart approach!

Mixing both shutters and blinds is also a smart approach, balancing budget, light control, and style across a whole home, pictured here in a recent install in Mount Maunganui.

Expanding west doesn’t change how I work. I still come out myself, measure tho, and talk through what will genuinely suit the house rather than pushing a set formula. Every home is different, and the right answer usually is too.

If you’re in Matamata, Putāruru, Tirau, Te Aroha, Hamilton, Cambridge and surrounding areas, and thinking about quality shutters or NZ-made blinds, I’m happy to pop in for a chat and a measure!
